we are having a hard time getting the dimensioning to behave.
when trying to move a wall the whole building shifts randomly. i've got walls that are locked that are moving and unlocked walls that won't move without unlocking a wall on the other side of the site. when i do accept the unlocking of the wall (or property line) the whole building shifts on the site rather than just shortening up one segment to get rid of a 5/8" dimension
we are also ending up with dimensions that are not adding up from one side of the building to another.
lastly, every so often the dimension extension lines refuse to attach to the part of the wal i need it to.
this is extremely frustrating. i've spent the better part of two days building and re-building and suddenly when i go to a different view things have shifted or disappeared. this makes me leary of producing legal documents if i can't predict and track what's happening.

Hey mate,
first, why do you have walls locked? I can't remember the last time I locked anything, for that reason, I don't want walls moving when I don't want them to!
did you try to unlock all your walls? is it still happening?
second, when you dimension, you can choose where to snap to, be it wall face, core face, wall center... it's up on top. as well you can tab to cycle through these options.

What has worked for me so I know my outline stays as intended is I create my exterior outline with reference planes (grid lines would work as well) and I pin them so they will not move unless I unpin them. I then align the walls, floor etc. to the reference planes and lock to them. Then to modify I un-pin & move the reference plane then re-pin.
On your dims not adding up, check the precision on the dim properties. If it's a fairly coarse setting it may not add up because of rounding off.
Another wayy to move walls to precision is to check or create dims to the walls then when you select the wall change the dim to what you need and the wall will follow.

Thanks for the insights. I'll give these tips a go and we'll see what happens.
