Hi All,
i'm using revit 2012 Arch.
i'm in the process of making a Wave shaped roof canopy family. i'm using conceptual Mass fam. template, by drawing the wave shape in South elevation i got it extruded, now my problem is the wave canopy is supported by "X" shaped bracings (20cm x 20cm steel) (see picture) now i need a tip to create the bracings, which are in diagonal & in wave shape, kind off follow the wave curve and yet in diagonal. Any tips to create this shape.
Note: pic's for example only, canopy shape pic (long span facing you)
thx. W

Those diagonals are on planes. If you did your extrusion from an elevation, do the "same" with flat planes that zee across the bottom of your roof in that elevation. Now place your x-brace on those planes.

thx. for the reply. i guess you did not get my point. those brasings are in the wave shape but in other direction of the wave. and they are not bracings but holding the wave.
those pics i attached are examples only,

First their bracings, now their not? Come on! An X still exists on a plane.

in the picture youve shown the bracing isnt supporting anything. its just resisting lateral movement or twist.
get your engineer to calculate the member sizes for the "bracing" you show, as its is carrying the roof load.
the connections either end will be interesting !

The bracing itself is actually curved?

I would not call this bracing. It looks more like a grid to support the material - like a ceiling grid. I would do it as a texture layer - a material - for 3D. I have no idea how to do it for 2D.

use a pattern based family and create your beam system from it then in your mass model apply the criss cross surface pattern to your bottom of roof andthen apply the paatern you created to it. See atached image.
