Hi all, I am relatively new to revit so sorry if this is basic or easily findable but I have been searching unable to find an answer. I am on Revit 2013 and created a central model on our file server with worksharing enabled. In the office my local copy works fantastically. I can breeze around the model.
I took my laptop to the site and opened my local copy of the model while on a iphone tethering connection so I could sync back when done. Everytime I clicked, zoomed, or did anything I got an hour glass and it was unusable.
My assumption is that it is Revit searching what others are doing to the central model but I do not know.
Is there a way to work remotely effectively? Through vpn just did not work for me.
Thanks!!!

Sorry, but that is a bad process. Instead, look at logging into your computer at work and running that remotely.

I have a laptop, that isnt an option for me.
Why is it bad practice? I would have to imagine I am not the only one that has ever had to work in the field? When surveying a space it is MUCH easier to draw directly in your software and identify any potential mismeasurements rather than in the office and having to head back later. I typically work out of state so the cost of air fare for a mistake is not a good thing.

Your problem is all of the communication you need working in a local remotely. You haven't told us if others are working in the project at the same time as you. That limits our ability to answer your question. I assumed you were working with others. Working remotely through your office computer is the bast solution in that case. I doubt working in the cloud is a solution for you.
If that is not the case, then detach your file and work on it in the field. Then create a new central from that model when you get back to the office.

Okay, I thought there was more issues than just user based with detaching from the model. I will do that next time.
