Help!! I need to create a duplicate of my main floor plan to insert structural elements but I dont want any changes I make on the duplicated plan to show in the main plan, be it deleting or adding elements. Any idea how that can be done?

Just create a new plan from the view tab (uncheck the do not duplicate box).
If you want the annotative elements you already have in your original plan, then duplicate the view with detailing.
Now for this question: ..." I dont want any changes I make on the duplicated plan to show in the main plan.." What do you mean here. Revit is 3D. If you add 3D objects or want to change 3D objects, then you have to use Design Options. If you only want to add 3D objects, you could isolate them in a workset. If all you are doing is 2D - then just do it.
