Is there a way to enable structure such as walls and beams below a floor slab to be shown dashed in a plan view?
I've looked at inserting a reflected ceiling plan as an Underlay but I can't make the Underlay display as dashed or dotted line.

don't think you can, best bet will be to go to wire frame view and use dashed line to trace over your walls (use the pick tool) you can also attach your lines to the walls in case you move them...
go back to hidden line view...
anyone knows a better way?

There doesn't seem to be a way in which the software represents elements below or above in normal representation.
I do not recommend the use of lines dashed or otherwise since it could become very cumbersome when you make revisions.
Till the software designers provide us with this option which i hope they will in the next release, one will have to find other ways of communicating the designs ... basically by relying on the contractors and others to read the drawings and understand corelations and positions of hidden elements.

well... you might have to wait for a while!
if you attach the dashed line to your element and lock it, it should move with the element.
you can't just sit back and say don't do it because Revit can't do it... if there is a need to show the lines, then show the line.

Revit actually give you a somewhat intelligent way of doing this.
In your view, set an underlay of the floor or level below you want to show with dashed lines.
When set properly you will see the underlay as a 50% graytone. Then use the "Linework" tool which is the icon that looks like an old fashioned fountain pen and "pick" with the linework tool in the proper linestyle the elements you want.
Then when done you can turn off the underlay. What remains are the graphic representations of the elements you used the linework tool on. While they may appear to the eye as "lines", they are not. You can move the elemnent you picked with the linework tool and the linework will move. If you delete the element the "linework" will be deleted.
To "turn off" the linework you would need to use the linework tool set to "by category".
Give it a try!
This technique can be used for elements above the cutplane as well for things like beams and sofitts.
HTH

There is actually a much easier way of doing this. (hope someone hasn't already said it as i didn't read the whole thread) apologies if someone has.
Simply set your <beyond> linestyle to be a dashed line.
Now in your view range set it so the bottom clip plane is where you want the elements below to begin to start displaying as dashed. You view depth parameter controls how far past this bottom clip plane elements are to display dashed.
HTH.
If your confused i'll draw a diagram.
Alternatively you can overlay a floor plan with graphic overrides for the elements you wish to show in plan and place them over eachother on the sheet.

Mr. Spot - your approach works well if you want everything to be shown up to the view depth you set. Sometimes though you just want a key element and that is when I like the Linework tool.
eldados - didn't mean to step over your post, but just wanted to make sure that the original poster was aware of the linework tool which is different then using a detail line.
wevit - As you can see they are multiple approaches in Revit that get you a solution. Sometimes they are all equal in validity, sometimes one will work the best. They only one to know for sure what is best for you is you. Ask the questions, get the responses and then try them out.

It's cool Tom,
like I said in the past, many ways to skin a cat! there are so many different ways to do things in Revit, some work better than others...

eldados,
Send some of that Ausie sun up this way!
We are in the middle of a very gloomy winter here in Minnesota. I don't think we've had a sunny day in about a month. Even if we did, I missed it as I don't get a view out a window at work and I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark.
So how come I moved back here from sunny Phoenix again??

Tom,
wish I could! it's been so hot here lately, can't wait for winter to come, mind you, winter is the best time in Queensland!
I look out my window onto the botanical gardens and the Brisbane river... a very nice site indeed
Arizona would be a nice place wouldn't it? a bit hot though...
