I apologize ahead of time if I posted in the wrong area.
I'm a recent college graduate who majored in architecture and environmental design. I've had an individual come to me with a request for a few plans and elevations for a small residence he's working on. He's asking how much am I going to charge him, but I don't know what to tell him. I don't want to charge too much since I have no certification other than my degree but I also don't want to charge too low - I want to be fair to myself. I'm not designing anything, just drafting. I'm wondering if anyone could help me out on how much to charge?
Thanks,
Jordan

You do not need to be licensed or certified to do residential drafting, so you can charge as much as you want. Double check your local jurisddiction's requirements, but here in CA permit drawings do not need to be drafted by an architect, but will need to be engineered where required: anything beyond conventional light framed construction. If it's for a home owner or a contractor, charge the going rate, which will vary on your area. If you are in San Francisco it could be $200/hr, if you are in po-dunk hillbilly country, it could be $30/hr.
