I'm trying to load this .pat file and no matter what I set the scale to it tells me it's either too dense or too large. If it's too dense revit suggests that I increase the line spacing, and if it's too large it recommends decreasing the line spacing. What can I do?

Even AutoCAD struggles with that pattern definition which contains over 16,000 pattern definition lines and is an example of the bloat that can emerge from a runaway hatch pattern generator:

The pattern could be equally well defined with a pattern containing up to about 250 lines that would not unnecessarily burden your model. A 250 line pattern would occupy a file of the order of 20Kb instead of over 1Mb.
I suggest you find an alternative pattern either from the collection maintained on this forum or elsehere - we keep a list of hatch pattern related links here:
