Is it possible to change the template of an already created family?
I have created our company's models based on the generic cabinetry template given by Revit. Now, SEFA has produced new templates that are specific to each category.
Can I take my already created models and update/change their template to the SEFA template?

No - But you can export any special shared parameters they have then include those in your family.

From your HELP:
Exporting Shared Parameters to a Shared Parameter File
You can export shared parameters to a new shared parameter file if the old parameter file is deleted, or if there are shared parameters in a family or a project that are not in the current shared parameter file.
Before you can export them, you must already have added the shared parameters into a Revit Architecture project file or family file. For more information on adding shared parameters, see Adding Shared Parameters to Families and Project Parameters.
- Create or open a shared parameter file.
For more information on creating shared parameter files, see Setting Up Shared Parameter Files.
- Select a shared parameter in either a family or a project.
- Click Modify.
- In the Parameter Properties dialog, click Export.
NoteThe Export option is never enabled if the selected shared parameter is already in the current shared parameter file.
A message displays informing you that the shared parameter will be exported to the shared parameter file you set up in Step 1.
- Click OK to complete the export.

I'm piggyback onto this post. (I'm using Revit 2015).
I have a fancy door panel was created on Door Family Template, with another nested family also created on the Door Family Template.
If I create a new door type Door1, for example, with proper door frame with this door panel nested into this new door family; then when I insert the Door1 into a wall, three door tags shown; and created 3 doors in the schedule.
My options are:
1. Start from scratch; recreate all items in Generic Family Template with associated parameters. (It will take hours, even days).
2. Leave as the way it is just hides the extra tags and doors in the project. (I don't like it).
3. Copy and paste the created door panel families into a new family based on generic template. (I failed by just copy and paste).
4. Change the existing nested families into generic families. (The answer was NO, per the reply #2 above).
Please help!

Don't share the nested families.
