So I opened a slider door to edit. clicked save, and the "save as" window opens. so OK, I try to overwrite the old door file and I get this message...not sure why. I though editing a part in a project doesnt affect the original libray..im confused. I cant edit library parts anymore??

My first guess is it appears you have opened the same family twice and at the same time. (Either that or someone else has the family file open)

You can change the name when you do the saveas or locate and close the other file.

To check and see if the family is open twice by you clcik the 'Close Hidden' button on the View tab then click the 'Switch Windows' button on the same tab and it will list all open files.

thanks for the tip. Ended up doing a restart and must have solved that problem. but the double open makes sense.
