I would like to hear some comments from the general REVIT user community about embedding tags in REVIT family.
Recently, one of the project team member created a REVIT family with a tag embedded (corner guard for wall protection). It seems to be a a good idea a the beginning. The benefit is when you place your family in the model, the tag is placed at the same time. Subsequently a few other family was created with embedded tags.
I personally did not think this is good way of managing the REVIT family library for the project because now we have exception to the majority of the existing REVIT family which did not have tag embedded. Later on, we found that it is more difficult to place additional annotation information around the family with embedded tags. You cannot move the embedded tags because the family will move with it.
If we need to tag family we can use the "TAGALL" command from REVIT. When the tag is not imbedded in the family, positioning of the tag is can be adjusted to accommodate other annotation information.
We also had an incident that a junior team member erased a bunch of these corner guard family thinking that he/she was just removing annotation
Should we embed tags in family or not?
Thanks in advance for your comments.
Best Regards,PaulM3357

I think you already discovered the correct answer. Tagging is so easy so why would you create the problems you have by embedding them.

Thank for your comments WWHub. We all have our own presonal preferences, but I think it's always good to try to look at thing from different points of view or other people's perspective.

I would not embed tags into families. As you stated "If we need to tag family we can use the "TAGALL" command from REVIT" so I do not see the point in creating more possible headaches for yourself as you saw with someone erasing the tag which actually erased your family.
