I am trying to make our stud detail family more "intelligent" so I want to add the lines that we commonly use to denote a stud into the family, so that they extend the length of the stud no matter how long the stud is dragged, or how wide the stud is. Essentially, no matter what width or length the stud is, the lines should be consistantly at 45 degrees, and run the whole length. Please see attached pic.

Read the similar threads on parametric arrays.

I always check threads before I post. I read through some, and many don't have replies. The one that sorta comes close is this: http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=15688
But those only work for when you need an even number of a certain item. I am talking about having a line that shows correctly whether the stud is 3'-0" long, or 11'-6 3/8" long with no gaps. So I'm not even sure an array is the appropriate method for achieving this since it only works in whole increments, to my knowledge.

Arrays work in odd as well as even increments but you can't have just one. I think you will need two arrays, one for each direction.
You say no gaps. That can't be unless your length is an increment that works as a whole multiplier of your width. So for those istances the excess will have to be at one end or the other unless you can center your pattern.
I suggest you nest the V family. Actually, 1/2 - you could use the same family for both directions, just mirrored in the host family.
