I am working on a remodel project and am using Revit phasing to distinguish between existing&demo vs. new construction.

Question: How do you guys deal with the naming convention for components and inplace families.  Is it a good idea to distinguish the components by naming them (E) for existing & (N) for new construction?  If I do that, it means I will need to duplicate types between existing & new. Or since I am using phasing that doesn't matter?  Comments appreciated!

Thank you.

I am not sure what types of families you are referring to but here is an example of what I have done working for a fire protection firm:

For existing and demo the objects are usually noted by a dashed line. Rather than create or duplicate families, all I did was override the line type in the visibility graphics. It helped that I created a new line type within the family so it was easy to find and override in the project visibility graphics.

By using phases, existing can be shown differently than new.  No need for multiple familes.
