I am working on a remodel project where we will be demolishing most of the existing doors and some of the existing frames using Revit Phase "Existing&Demo".  We are then planning to add new doors and new frames to those that were  demolished in Revit Phase "New Construction".  The final intent is to be able to schedule the doors and the frames using one line item in Revit if possible.

My question is: should I model the door and the frame separately or as one? I currently have a hybrid of components including components with door & frame in one, while others are doors and frames modeled separately and then placed ontop of each other in the main model.  I'm thinking I should be consistent and do one or the other. Suggestions appreciated!

Attached is a CAD door schedule - what I am trying to achieve in the final product.

No need to overcomplicate this.  As far as I am concerened, door and frame are one and everything is taken care of in the schedule under door properties.

BTW - I deleted your previous post.  If you need to bump a post back to the top of the list, just respond to your own post rather than creating a new one.  You can also edit your own post ... The down chevron in the right upper corner.

Thanks WWHUB.

To clarify - I have door leafs and door frames that are used in various combinations.  Wouldn't it be easier to swap out the door frame and leafs if they are separate components?  I should be able to still schedule them given I tag the two components with the same identity data and schedule them side by side?

There have been others that try to do what you are describing and try to have multiple leafs in a family with parameters to show what you want.  I believe it is far easier to modify a door family to have a different leaf and save that as a seperate family.  So I sort by family/type rather than by family/type/door leaf/???

Much easier to modify and control.
