Hi, this will be my first post so go easy on me!
I've been using Revit with our practice for about 9 months on and off and we are starting to really push it out across the office and looking at how to make the most of the software. We have been looking into the visulas side of revit and have had some success with clients with some of the renderings we have done. We're now looking to go that extra step and have started looking at walkthoughs.
We understand rendering a 30sec fly over @ 25fps will take a fairly long time so I've been looking at ways to reduce the rendering time whilst not sacrificing on quiality. So this is what we've come up with:
Export the walkthough in the 'Hidden lines' style (this doesn't seem to take very long to do) and then export a section of the frames as 'Rendered'. Then take the video files into some editing software and fade in the rendered section over the black & white. We think the effect would be good for the client whilst helping use to cut down the production time.
However, when it came to testing it all went a bit wrong as the hidden line video and the rendered video came out at different sizes!
I can't see that I did anything different with the settings other than to change the render style. The clips even came out at the same res.
I've attached a few pics to give an idea whats happening.
Any comments would be great!
Many Thanks
Steve

The export dimensions are arbitrary--so even if you only change the visual style of the 3D view, if you accidentally hit export at 1820px width instead of 1920px, you will have different sizes of exports.
Did you, by any chance, change the Microsoft video compression codec or compression "quality?" I do not trust this slidebar, at all. I typically keep it set at 10% since that reduces the file size by about 75%... But if you're doing a lot of post-processing work, you should export as uncompressed.
Oh. Also consider using the "Realistic" view, which uses the render materials and also has line edges incorporated. turn on shadows and ambient shadows, and that's the effect we like to use. It cuts out all of the rendering time, and compiles a walkthrough in about 3x the time of a hidden line view. Not bad.

Hi Ego, Firstly very sorry for the long delay (my wife gave brth a few days later and forgot about the post!) and secondly thank you for the quick reply!
I did double check the settings and everything I have checked shows the two walkthroughs are at the same res and settings but for some reason the rendered one comes out smaller!
I'll take a look at trying the realistic view and report back!
Thanks again.
