Is there a way to join an inplace modeled wall component to a roof component? Revit won't seem to allow this for me.

In place families have no automatic features. Sorry, you will have to cut the top of these with a void in that inplace family.

How do I cut on the vertical plane? I can only seem to cut on the horizontal plane. Revit won't give me an option to select a reference plane other than the levels.

Goto an elevation view that is normal with that roof slope. Open your family for editing. Set the work plane to the face of this wall. Create an in-plcae vid extrusion set to go in the proper direction - probably negative. Before finishing the family, set the void to cut tis wall.
