sorry, i must not have been clear. i need to attach a link to the equipment so that when the file is opened in design review you can select the equipmnet and navigate to a pdf or word document. for example attaching a IOM to a boiler.

Create a text parameter in the family, and add the link to the PDF there. You'll have to copy/paste the link, but I don't know of any other way to provide a PDF with a family.

This is very do-able.
We just add a URL to the URL 'Type' parameter of the element.
The URL can be a network file / folder or a web based file / folder. As long as it's accessible.
After you add the URL to the Type parameter of the element click the element, then click the 'Edit Type' button, click in the URL field and a little button shows up on the right of the field. Click the little button and it open's the PDF or what ever the URL is pointing to.
We use this as a help method for content descriptions etc. see attached image.
I just wish there was a dynamic URL icon that shows up when you click on an element that has a URL instead of having to go through the properties palette. Perhaps there is a faster way to activate the associated URL once it gets applied to the element ??
See attached image.

thank you dgcad, that is exactly what i was looking for. i have a client that wants to be able to use the model in design review, or Naviswork freedom to look at the building on a daily basis and be able to pull up the IOM right from the model.
