I have a client that has rooms that have several different options. For example I need to create a 10x10 that has the option to switch out the doors and windows per each varation. I then have a 10x5 option that would have to be able to do the same. There may be 10 different 10x5s and 15 different 10x10s. I initially thought I would create a family with yes/no parameters that would turn on and off the different doors and windows, however I can't place both a door and a wall in the same family (unless I'm missing something).
Does anyone have any ideas on how I would perform this, or if you can add multiple families types into one family?

If these options are consistent accross the project, then simply use design options.

Yes, I see two design option 'Sets'. One named 10x10 and one named 10x5.
Then each Set has several 'Options'. Not complicated.
The approach would be to draw the first set of walls and doors normally just like as if you had no Design Options.
Then create the Design Option Sets and potential supporting Options. (Better to create more options and delete them then to add more later.)
Then use the 'Add to Set' tool to copy all the walls, doors windows etc to each Option. I would leave nothing in the main model in your case.
Then edit each Option as required.
Use 'Copy (Cut) and Paste' to move objects from one option to the next as required.
That's not everything but a general overview.
In your case you will probably have 'nothing' in the main model during the editing process or until the end when you 'Accept Primary' and consolidate everything back into a main single model option.

Sorry, maybe I was not clear enough. I'm looking to create a 5x5 room that would have a wall and a door. I want to be able to select that 5x5 "grouping" and switch the door from a single flush to a roll up door, or I'd like to be able to select a chamfer on one wall. I would basically like to be able to have check boxes that would allow me pick and choose the different parts and pieces that would make up each 5x5.
Then I have to create a 10x10, a 10x5, and so on.
My issue that I keep coming across is that I can't place walls as a family type. If I could do that, I could simply nest the door family in there and create yes/no paramters for all the different options that go along with a 5x5. Thank you guys for answering btw.

You write:"....I want to be able to select that 5x5 "grouping" and switch the door from a single flush to a roll up door..." It's called edit group.
This program will not do what you have imaginied and neither will AutoCAD. So either learn to use what tools you have or find another program. The Design options is your answer. It is not yes / no but it will be menu driven.
DO Set 1
DO1 - Single flush
DO2 - Rollup
DO Set 2
Do1 - x1
DO2 - x2
DO3 - x3
Just like a Chinese menu.

You cannot do what you want. REVIT does not work that way. I suggest you use Design Opions.
It is there to do exactly what you describe.

Thank you for your help. Using design options may be too cumbersumb versus using simple groups for this application. I was hoping to create a family that users could plug in and change several variations to that size. Then they could quickly add multiple sizes with multiple variations in the same view.
I almost found a work around to creating a wall family. I've attached the link below. I was able to create the wall family, but unfortuantely revit will not allow you to place a door within this hacked wall family.
Thank you again for your help.
