Hello,
This is my first question, so i hope i'm in the right catagory :3
My boss wants me to draft up a couch for his boat (yeah i know). The couch finish is leather quilted. Now, i know Revit doesn't do well with smooth surfaces but there MUST be a way of doing a quilted pattern?
So either a void? or creating each quilted piece?
This is really driving me crazy because my lovely couch looks so flat and boring :/
Any suggestions?

Assign a material to the couch with the pattern that you are looking for

I don't believe a pattern will give you the depth illusion you want but try it and let us know if it does.
Otherwise, you may have to use the voids to "pillow" your forms.
I've got to believe there is a better program for doing these kind of forms.

it is a combination of the various modeling tools in revit and yopur patience that will get you the desired results. we have a couple pieces in which you can see some void revolves used for buttons and sweeps to create "fluffiness". http://www.therevitcollection.com/furniture/seating
i hate to reference a competitor but these guys achieved exactly what you are looking for in their free barcelona chair. the downside is the family is over 2 MB! if you download it you can see there are nested families and lots of voids which doesn't help your file size at all. if that isn't a big deal you can certainly reverse engineer that one. http://www.revitfurniture.com
one tool you need to learn is the fillet arc and tangent end arc to smooth your corners!
also the attached pic is a family we will be adding this week to our site which contains 6 family types within in the single file that lets you create any type of sectional you want. here is the real product page... http://www.vitra.com/en-us/home/products/place-sofa/detail/ look for it on TRC later this week!
