(Using Revit Architecture 2012)
I'm having trouble getting rid of some phantom components floating around in a few models that only show up
in perspective views. So - Here's the particulars: I have three buildings, each in its own file. These files are linked into
a site model. When I made a perspective view of the site model (see attached), I started seeing stairs, ralings,
model lines, etc. that only become visible in perpsective view, or at least I haven't been able to find them in other views.
Stranger still, the elements only show up when i link the files, so I can go into one of the building models, create a
perspective view, and there are no phantom components to be found. I thought the problem may have been the site
model, however I can unload the building models and watch the components dissappear. If it helps, all the files were
created from the same template file I made from another project - Perhaps I didnt purge it properly or sopmething?
the phantom components could very well be stairs and railings from that old project - but i cant say for certain.
a quick search of the forums here gave me a little clue that this could be a bug, but I couldnt find enough info on it.
If you look at the image you can make out some floating railings and lines - I tried to get a better image, but the
offending components seem to come and go depending on how the image is zoomed...Any thoughts on how this
is happening or how it can be alleviated? Thanks!

Im am using revit 2013 and i am getting a similar issue. In my 3d view, i am gettng a partial wireframe view in all view modes. This is causing all sorts of havok in my 3d view when trying to host sweeps and such!
I have also experienced the phantom objects in 2012 when using linked revit files. They did show up in all my views but would not show up in renderings. Very strange, i figured it was a graphics error/setting. I have tried it on 3 computers, one an ati radeon 4600 card, nvidia 275, and a quadro 3800. They all had the same issue.

More than likely, they are in one or all of your linked models.
I would open the linked model, isolate the railing category in view, pick one railing, then select similar - all in project - how many are there. If more than what tou see, window and de-select the correct ones and delete the others.

christofur, Are these items in combined families?
Remember, if the family is not cutable and if any part of the family is cut by the view, then the entire family will be in view.

No, i searched in the forums a bit more. Somebody said just to delete the view and create a new one. Seems to have worked so far. It happend all of a sudden after a roof change. Must be a random bug...maybe autodesk will hotfix it.
Thanks for the help tho

Thanks for the suggestion - gave it a try and I'm not finding any extra railings or stairs. The one thing all these files have in common is they were created using the same tempalte file, created from an older project. I really think I just didn't make the template correctly or something along those lines. anyways, i appreciate the help.

When you make a 3d view, Revit doesn't know what you want to see until you tell it. When you create a 3D view, by default it seems that all model and annotation categories are turned on. You may need to define which model categories and worksets are turned on in your 3D site view. also, if you have a satisfactory 3D view in your linked models, you might try displaying the links in your site model By Linked View. Once you have it looking the way you want, you might make a View Template from the settings and save it for future use.

The culprit was a service pack not installed on the computer. Just installed it and all the phantom elements have gone away.
