I need to change the wood beam families to show an "X" in the beam when creating a section or elevation.  I've been able to do so with the wood column families but not beams.  Can anyone provide any information on how to do this?  I've tried model lines and symbolic lines and then save the family but the "X" still doesn't show up in my model.  I am using Revit Structure 2012.  Thank you.

What beam family are you trying to change?  I did it with the Structural Framing/Wood/Dimensional Lumber family.  I drew in the "X" aligned and locked it to the Reference Planes so that it will stretch with the beam when the size is changed then clicked on the 2 lines that form the "X" and clicked Convert Lines to make them Symbolic lines and brought it into the project with everything working fine.

I'm trying to change all of the wood beam families.  I'll try your suggestion.  Thank you!

To teafoe5,

What do you mean by drawing the lines "aligned"?  What view did you draw your lines in?  3D, Left, or Right?

Thank you.
