Hey all,

How big is your template file and what size projects do you do?

We typically do TI work in the 3 - 6000 sf range and our template is 50mb.  Seems big.

Wow. That seems massive. I have 2 templates, one with all masterformat materials and one without and they are both around 10 mb.

Do you have a ton of families preloaded in the file or any hidden dwg files stuck in there somewhere? Those are the two major file size culprits I can think of off the top of my head.

Yeah, we have a bunch of families.  We have a pretty streamlined production system so the cost of that is lots of stuff already in the file with the benefit being less time actually working in the file.  But, I'm doing a project with a lot of exterior work and lots of rendered materials for the clients benefit and my whole file is only 79mb.  So, when I saw our new template was 50 for predeminantly interior work, it set me back a bit.  We're still figuring it out.  Thanks for your response.

Our template is 13.8.  If your loaded families are used on EVERY project then that is OK.  If not, then I don't believethey belong in the template.

As revitape asked but maybe not deep enough, do you have a lot of included CAD files?  That includes CAD details in both detail elements and drafting details that are pre-loaded.  If you have those, you should plan on getting rid of those as soon as possible.  Clean them up and make them Revit components.
