I need to make a ceiling mounted receptacle. Typically, we don't show them on ceiling plans though. So its a two part question: Do I make the receptacle ceiling hosted but have the annotation show on the floor plan or do I go non-hosted and just place it in the model with an elevation? Also if I go ceiling hosted how do I create that? Can I edit the typical wall based receptacle and modify the hosting?

I would make it face based. Then you can place it on any surface including cabinets or families of any category.
Not sure what your annotation needs are. We have those separate from our model families.
