Our server is down and don't know when it might be back up.
I would be the only person working on the model. What are the ramifications of working off my local model file temporarly? Will I be able to fold my local model back into the server model once our server is back up?

If you are the only one, then you should open the local detached and make a new central on your system. Now work on a local tied to that. Then when the network comes back up, create a new central on the network and have everyone re-connect to that.
