For some reason when we demo a stair the new stair and wall BELOW is still covered by the original stair even though we've demo'd the original stair. We would like to show the demo and new in the same view. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I can't see your file (I'm currently operating without a copy of Revit)....but on your view properties, make sure you have your phase set to demolished AND new

Changing phase filters doesn't resolve the problem.

If you want to show both the demo and new on the same plan with the demo not hiding the wall then I would suggest using linework. Pick over the stair elements to save time creating the lines then simply erase the stairs.
Otherwise if you truely want to model the demolished stairs then I would suggest doing a demo view and a new construction view and set the phase filters for each view correctly.

So you're suggesting that we should put demo info on one sheet and new info on another sheet. Which means we can't show demo and new on the same sheet unless we overlap the two views. Are you suggesting we overlap the two views? Maybe the linework tool is a better option. Thanks for the suggestions. I still think when a stair is demo'd you should be able to see through it.

Yes, my suggestion is that the demo plan be a separate plan from the construction plan. We made this decision in our office prior to Revit implementation and with Revit the reasons are even more compelling.
Our main reason was that showing demo and new on one plan was very confusing as some things that are demo and new both get the same linetype (soffits, portion of new stairs above cut plane etc.). Frequently the demolished and new items are both in a similar location and that leads to a lot of head scratching to figure out what is going on. When I opened your file I was confused when looking at the plan view and had to go to the properties of each stair to figure out which was which. I've been in the business 20+ years.
We also found that producing a separtate demo plan matches more closely the flow of construction in the field. Typically the demo is done first by low skilled individuals and just having a demo plan presents them with just the right amount of information to get their job done without confusing them with the rest of the new construction.
