I find navigating the Project Prowser (warehouse) for EVERYTHING is a headache and waist of time. Way too much clicking and schrolling when I know exactly what I want, quite frankly. It's a bit of a joke as far as work process goes. I know exactly what I want and it still takes a dozen clicks to execute the tool. Not acceptable. Steve Jobs would say "CRAP" "CRAP" "CRAP".

Leave the project browser there (massive warehouse) but please provide customizable tool palettes. That's it, that's all. Not complicated. There is a total of 1500 possible choices within the project browser and I want easy customized access to 50 of them.

This is not rocket science. It's a tool palette and it's been around for 8 years. 8 years is enough time to develop a new product from the gound up let a lone add an interface feature.

Imagine, just for a minute, how productive you could be if you had a hand full of personal 'tool palettes'. You could drag items from the project browser to the palette. In the case of a view, schedule, sheet or legend that tool would open that specific view when later clicked. In the case of a family or group being dragged over to a tool palette it would begin to place that specific element and type depending on what was dragged. If a 'type' is dragged then a type is placed. If a whole family is dragged over then it gives you the type option. Pretty simply stuff.

Correct me if I am wrong but AutoCAD and ADT (non BIM) where doing this 8 years ago. Plus you can network the DWG tool palettes from a server for project based content. As a CAD manaager I used to be able to (8 years ago) setup and deploy a networked tool palette without explanation or training. Now in BIM / REVIT I have to teach everyone how to navigate the project browser (near impossible to explain it's purpose), identify the difference between a Generic Model and all the rest and how to locate the element and place it from this god forsaken project browser. Crap. All I want is the element. Make it accessable. The science / category is completely irrelevant but Autodesk forces me teach the science of 'categories' to a new user. Off on a tangent we go . . . . Do they care what catergory the element is ? NO ? I have actually reloaded families just because I cannot FIND it in the project browser. Hey, how about a search tool within the project browser !!! Now there's an idea ??

 I see the project browser through the eyes of both a seasoned user and a trainer so trust me when I say "It. . . . . . . is . . . . . . . . CRAP".

Click those little plus + icons and keep on schrolling. It's a JOKE and a problem that was already solved in the DWG 8-10 years ago. Did the REVIT developers cash in, buy a big house on the beach and quit the game ? Sorry, I'm still here trying to make a living. Throw me some palettes please when you get a break between your bahama mama's . . . . .  we had them 8 years ago and we all miss the productivity.

The project browser is just a HUGE MASSIVE WAREHOUSE EXCUSE of REVIT Content and Views organized by 20+ year old technology. It is evident that it's an excuse for not knowing what to do next. "Let's just go on holidays and pile it here into the PB abyss"

Here's a little hint. . . . Hire some Apple programmers or maybe read the Steve Jobs book. I could draw you a picture but I cannot find the content in the project browser.

It's '2012' Autodesk. Let's please get beyond the lttle plus + icon folder structure. We had that in Windows 3.1.1 in 1986 thank you. Before some of these reader were born.

It makes me think of how Word Perfect, 15 years ago, was far superior to how MS Word actually is today and guess what is on my PC ?? Yuck.

Apple has set the bar and Autodesk is somewhere on a beach somewhere. No one actually knows where. Subscription fees seem to be paying their bar tab for now.

Yes, 2 - 26" monitors but we need a 3 mile monitor to naviagte the PB. Then I will need a new neck and a personal masseuse. Hmm . . . wait . . .

I've always felt I do a pretty good job keeping my PB organized, but at the moment I'm working on a project that has over 50 linked models and probably tens of thousands of views. I'm virtually lost at times.... no pun intended. Autodesk is very aware of this issue.

Ouch, I totally feel your pain and can completely relate to the 'LOST' feeling. You hit the nail on the head.

'Lost' is the word.

Great product . . . . horrible interface.

It's new users that can't seem to get their head around the purpose of the PB.

It's all in there, you just have to schroll and wade through the + clicks to find what you want.

It's like a huge lost and found bin . . . . hey I found that family I lost before the Christmas party !

Couldn't agree with you more guys, been using Revit since 2006  on and off some times and having used Autocad since 1996 , but this PB is one big pain in the wrong places. AutoCADD was probably much more better.

Tips  for Autodesk guys:.

1> Option to creat a new custom PB ( like a drag and drop)

2> Option to have a PB Search engine

3> A PB manager where i can custom the PB in sucha a way that it is

a) specific to the project ( some thing like a template for the project)

b) General and customisable according to the office requirement

I agree with DGCAD guys that it is not rocket science, will Autdesk wakeup ??
