I'm trying to render a gradient on a curtain wall that changes from green to white from the top of the building down (see images). In every single render, there is a solid green stripe at the bottom, as if the gradient begins repeating too soon. I have adjusted the size of the gradient sample, the offsets, and almost every parameter I can think of but it does this every time. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? I feel like the solution is something simple and it's driving me crazy.

how much have you changed the sample size? go to the extreme and change it from 18' to like 180' and see if it changes at all

I did that. I did 100'x100' and the green strip at the bottom was identical.

I bet this is an origin problem. If you assign a horizontal grid to this material and adjust it in elevation to the edge of your wall ..... Keep the patter the same as the grid... 18' if that is the height of your wall.

Thanks, WWHub, but would you be so kind as to tell me how to assign a horizontal grid to the material? This is different from specifying a surface pattern in the properties, right?

No, it is a surface pattern. Then use the texture alignment to align your gradient color to this pattern.
The trouble with a gradient fill like you have is that there is no way to align it. All patterns typically start from the host location but they can be adjusted.
Looking at your view, it appears that your walls have two different conditions at the corner. That's why I think this is an alignment issue.

I forgot to mention that I offset one curtain wall 1'-0" up in the screenshot to illustrate that the problem is consistent with the edge of the wall. I want the gradient to start at the ground plane (Level 1) and end at the top of the building.
From WWHub:
"No, it is a surface pattern. Then use the texture alignment to align your gradient color to this pattern."
I'm not sure how to do what you're describing.

I would love to hear more ideas, but as a temporary workaround I changed the bottom offset of my curtain wall to -1'-0" which brings the problem area below the ground plane and out of sight.

I appreciate the input. For future reference, could you explain a little more how to assign a horizontal grid and then align the gradient to that?
