it seems that the lineweights of a linked file are showing rather than our line weights. any sugestions.
I have overridden the line weight of in the v/g options under the rvt links to the same number we use and it is still really thick. any way to override their actual line weights.

CAN YOU POST YOUR 'VG' SETTINGS FOR THE REVIT LINKS?

Are you linking their file by view?

we only link our files for the model not the view. I have read some other forums and found that the best solution (unless someone has something better) is to open their file and transger our line weights into theirs. This works, its just a bit annoying to have to do this everytime they send a new file.

Linked files are controlled by your project's VG settings. No need to alter anything in the linked model. Read this topic in your HELP: Displaying a Linked Model by Host View
You can also display the linked model elements differently than the host model. For that, read this topic in your HELP: Using Custom Settings to Display Linked Models

We have changed the our line wieghts from the OOTB revit wieghts. This is what is causing the issues.
example: the actual line weight for #9 is .0180 in our file. in theirs its is .2. Theres is much larger. just setting the VG to 9 does not work because it reads their file's weight for #9. I could set it to a line weight number closer to ours (their #3 or so) but it would not match exaclty and it is easier (yet still annoying) to just overwrite their file before linking or reloading. The same thing happens with materials. We have our precast conc. set to have no cut pattern but theirs is set to have a concrete hatch. it shows up as a concrete hatch.
again if there is an easier way let me know.
I looked into the Using Custom Settings to Display Linked Models in help and did not find anything on this specific issue.

I thought that was kind of odd, so I went ahead and tried it myself. I'll be damned, Revit operates exactly how you said it does. Bummer. Makes sense, but bummer.
It'll be a bit of work for you, but have you considered changing your linweights back to OOTB (or at least something close)? It'll defenitely be a hassle right now, but might be easier in the long run. I'm wondering how everyone else is handling your projects linked into theirs, since they are going to have the same problems you are having.
