When I want to render a CLT wall element, which consists of several layers of wooden boards, the result shows a solid wooden panel. The build-up of the panel is not possible to see, since it merges all boards to a solid panel.
What I would like to see in the render are the edges of the extrusions, so that the single boards are distinctive.
I attached two pictures: one is of the family itself and the other the rendered result.
Anyone suggestions how to render edges of the single extrusions?
Thanks!

Use the right "Texture / Material" and you will have the effect you want...

Hmm...adjustments on either the graphics tab or render tab do not change anything to the rendered image.
Textures only apply to full surfaces or cross sections.
Do you know how the lines of edges become visible?

Joints in panels like yours are dependent on the bump file associated with the material. If you want more joint, you may have to increase that bump. You can also look for other material images that have better contrast.

Here's a material we made out of a cedar shingle, and a scanner. The default wood render materials are sort of... washed out, in my opinion.
If you're using revit 2012, I also think that the "realistic" view with edges enabled is far superior to an actual render, which always seems to wash things out further. Search for threads explaining how to make custom materials, if you're interested.

This is the result.
I modelled all boards as a single extrusion with an image as material.
Than it's just a matter of using the right scale.
Takes some patience, but it works.
