Hi Folks,
I am a newbie revit user for the 2011 not the 2012 as i can not downgrade. My problem i am having is that i have an exterior structural wall and on the entire surface of that exterior wall i want to put 4" wood cedar siding horzontal direction repeatedly to the top of the roof. I could model it in components and attach it manually but its not something i want to do.
Can someone demonstrate the way to do this? Please list the steps by steps in details as i am not sure where to go.
Thanks,
JF.

Are you trying to get it to look like 4" cedar siding in section or just a material in 3D?

Both if possible. I would like to see it on the section and on the 3d model view. Not sure about the rendering as i do not know how to yet.
Trying to get the idea of straight lines with bumps or indent groves in them if possible. If not just wood with lines as long as when it comes to the rendering it shows it as 4" one by one.

Usually the best practice is to use a bmp material to get it to look right in renderings and draft the details, but if you want the real thing, you will need to dive deep into the wall parameters. When you are in the type properties of the wall, edit the structure and open the preview. Now for the TRICK: change the preview from plan to section. From here you will undergo a trial and error process of learning about complex walls, including positioning profiles at different heights as sweeps. I can only point you in the right direction, because complex walls are a real pain. GOOD LUCK
