We are trying to produce shop drawings for precast panels. We have mave the panels structural columns and the steel some made the same as the panels and some are made as generic models. We are having problems with the objects showing up when cut.
1st: Solid hatches in the steel don't show solid when placed in the panel it disappears. Other hatches are ok. When the steel is taken out of the panel it shows solid again. Is there a reason for this or is it a system bug
2nd When hidden line is chosenin plan or section the steel disappearsaltogether. We can only veiw it in wireframe.?????? Shouldn't we be able to have composite objects that are cuttable.
3rd Probably a little vague. After a year of using revit, we still get thrown off by some of the things that revit shows when adjusting the cutting planes in plan view. It is not accurate???? sometimes the cuts are metres out. Bottom clip/viewing depth forget it stick to what you don't know. Behaves completely strangely when cutting families? Anyone have any ideas on how to improve consistancy?

With some of these structural questions it may be best to check out the Revit Structural forums on AUGI as i haven't used it myself...
Plan cuts of families in revit are defined in the family by the cut level set in the family. When these are cut in the project, rather than being truly cut they seem to callout to the family cut and show this instead. I've always found this behaviour a bit bizarre as i'd much rather see a true cut.

From one kiwi to another . . .
I've been building up our window and door families out of nested families 3 layers deep, and have had much the same issues.
What I've found is that by setting a narrow band of visibility (100mm above and below the cutting plane - view depth to correspond with bottom clipping) in every one of the nested families, then the inserted object cuts properly.
Does seem to be an issue though. Revit seems to consider the inserted objects in elevation if the view ranges aren't tight enough.
I dare say with Structural components, there may be more to it, but again try making sure that the families are behaving first before playing in the actual project.
