Every now and then I will dimension components so that I can move them to the right place. this has happened a few times to me where I click on the object and the dimension will not highlight. Right now I am trying to move some window openings and the dimensions are definetly attached to the window sides, they just won't highlight. I can move the windows in my north elevation but not my east.

Any thoughts????

The dimensions are not to the window.

When I hit tab it goes through the different options I have so I know I am clicking on the 4'x4' window. also i hit tab on the grid line or whatever I am dimensioning to so I know I am picking what I want. the view's cut plane is only 10' so I know there are no walls behind which i could be clicking on.

I assumed that the windows that reference dimension correctly are the same family as the ones that don't.  If that is the case, then your dimesions are not to the window.

The other possibility is your family.  If the family was build with the reference planes set to "Not a Reference", then you will never be able to dimension to those.  Consequently, you dimension will be to the opening and it will not highlite when the window is picked.
