I am trying to create a room finish schedule for a simple unit plan. It has a total of 12 spaces I have room tags in. However when I create the schedule I end up with a schedule with with 102 rows, both labeled and blank. More than half are just black rows. I also have multiples of each room (i.e. 4 Master Closets and 2 laundries)
The catch is when I delete what I consider extra rooms I also end up deleting components from my drawings. Example if I erase 3 of The Master Closets I lose the three shelves drawn in the space or if I delete the extra laundry I lose my washer.
If I delete the 3 extra master closets the add back in the 3 lost shelves I end up with 3 more master closets in my room schedule.
This drawing has been butchered by several draftmen by now. I have searched for spare room tags on other levels as well as tried a purge of all unused items in the drawings. Nothing
Why Is this?
Is it right?
Is there a way to remove the "room assignments" from the components?
Or what am I doing wrong?

That sounds like first, never heard of lost elements caused by a room deletion. First try to find those extra rooms by editing the schedule in the field option under properties of the schedule and activating the “Area” column. This will allow you to see the room areas and will allow you to see the “Not Placed” rooms (these are extra unwanted rooms previously deleted from a view but still remain in project).
Regarding the components that you are losing: Where these components placed via a REVIT plug-in (like this one)? In order for a component to be deleted when you delete a room, such component needs to be hosted to a room. Which is not a common default setting for a REVIT family. In that case try to redefine the host of such families prior to deleting the rooms.
Perhaps posting an example would help.
Good Luck.

It sounds like you have made an error while gouping. You have grouped some items correct? Like maybe the shelves? I would bet you included a room in the gouping. Edit the group and remove the room.
