I would like to recess windows and doors back into my walls from the exterior. How do I do that?

What do you mean by recess?
Windows will automatically cut the wall when placed. If you want to change where the window sits within the opening, then the family has to be built to allow for this. Most are not built this way.

yea i will need to change the family. So just change it so the panes are sent back farther? thanks
