Hi all,
I need a little help with project/true north:
I started drawing a project based on AutoCAD drawings which I imported with North already pointing upwards, I didn't know at the time to have reorientated it (lack of reading instructions first) so i continued to trace over the autocad drawings and even set up the project location based on the Autocad x and y coordinates so that it has real world coordinates. I have now gone through the entire project with all views orientated to project north by default and of course all of the views show the building with north directly upwards (meaning the building is not aligned to the view)
I now need to make sure that when the client chooses project north it aligns to the view and when choosing true north it aligns back to it's real world coordinates with true north pointing upwards. Can anyone tell me exactly how I can set this up so that it doesn't affect my real world coordinates, hopefully it will be an easy step i'm missing somewhere.
Will changing the angle to true north work on the project base point, and if so how can i do this accurately? e.g. not imputting a value and choosing an alignment of a line i've already drawn?
Thanks

Download the Spring 2009 issue of AUGUI / EDGE and read this article: Getting Oriented With Revit’s Coordinate System

mmm that doesn't really answer my question, (although i have found alot of useful bits in the articles), I started this project before really understanding much about project locations in Revit and realise now how I should have set the project up, however the project is practically finished, and my true north and project north are identicle and have real world coordinates,
How do I create an accurate project north from what I alerady have, I tried rotating project north by aligning to an object but it gave me about 700 errors/warnings, can you tell me a correct way to do it, as i'm a little concearned that i might be breaking my work using the obvious method?

actually most of the errors are "line is slightly off sketch", which probably isn't too bad i guess

arrrghhhh,
Okay what i did worked perfectly, I have even checked the cordinates with the coordinates at point tool and they match the autocad survey exactly, however now for some reason when I try to link another drawing to the revit model with shared coordinates, revit tells me that the linked drawing is located too far and centre to centre was used instead. Why is it doing this the actual location of the model has not moved in the slightest and the drawings imported perfectly before... I'm so confused
maybe it's just late in the day and i'm being silly lol

KK I know I'm talking to myself, but it's completely random!!!
After checking a few of my floor plans (which came in okay before the project north rotation) it turns out that some of them don't come in correctly at all, some come in correctly when in project north view and only a few come in correctly when in True North View, and ones that come in correctly while viewing one level will come in incorrectly if i try to link while looking at the level above etc.
What is going wrong???? can I assume that revit just has a major glitch when it comes to linking autocad surveys to a drawing??? as i always seem to encounter problem after problem when having to link survey data??? can anyone shed some light please
Thanks.
