Hi,
I'm a rivet newbie, and I have a problem I hope someone can help me with.
I am wondering how I can modify certain library components. Specifically,
I am using the Base Cabinet 4 Door 30x24x84.rfa from the Modern Medium Library, and I would like to change the size of the Doors (I would like to make the 2 bottom doors taller, and reduce the size of the top doors.) Whenever I try to load the component to edit it, it appears as a solid block, that I can't seem to modify. I have this problem with all the cabs from the modern medium lib, and this is getting very frustrating. I have looked in the documentation, and can't find anything to help.
I hope someone here can help, even if it's just to tell me iit can't be done (ie: these files are 'locked' and unmodifiable).
Thanks in advance,
Mitch

what you're trying to do is a complex procedure that would take a tutorial to explain. Which is a good reason to take the tutorials on family creation that come with Revit. They are some of the best software tutorials out there in my opinion.

Actually, I've been lookng through / doing the tutorials, but I can't find any help for this problem. When I try to mofidy these components, I cna't select any of the individual pieces - It all selects as one big block which I can't do anything with.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
M.

are you opening up the component as a separate file or loading it into your project?

I open the .rfa
I know for some you can specify in the properties the upper/lower heights for the doors, but not in the MOdern Medium lib. I am wondering if I am wasting my time trying to fix these up for my use?

Just downloaded the family from the revit website and opened it up. It's a dwg file that's been imported in. You won't be able to edit it in Revit. I didn't realize that these were dwg files just imported to Revit..

Base Cabinet 4 Door 30x24x84.rfa
is the file I am trying to open, from 11-equipment-cabinets
I don't see it as a .dwg file. They are .rfa files.
Or is this something you discover once you open it up in Revit?

yes, if you open up the rfa file and click on the block, in the properties box you'll see
"Import Symbol: 11ZB4JG4.dwg"

So if I want to change it, can I load the rfa into ACAD? Or do I have to export, and then import to ACAD?
thanks

don't think u can import rfa in to acad. I don't know if you can export to dwg from an imported dwg either. Probably best to find a real Revit family that is like the one you want.
