We are currently trying to switch our design method over to Revit. but we have specific drawing standards just like any firm.

The problem occurs when we are using realistic Window and Door components, to accurately portray their properties for environmental impact feed back and for rendering purposes (i.e. for the clients understanding of the space)

But at the same time we need to export our drawings To CAD. I was wondering if there is a way to embed a block or detail that we currently already have, into the family or components visibility graphic. So when were in Revit and look at the plan view or elevation view it is our standard block/ detail

You can do what you want but I suggest you don't use a CAD DWG.  Instead, it should be a Revit element.  Some of our families include 3D elements for 3D views and then have simple symbollic linework for 2D plans and elevations.

A lot of our families are also what we call 2-1/2 D.  Simple symbollic families that have no 3D component so they only work in plans and elevations.

So what do you suggest that i go into family editor and edit the 2d graphic? then save and it will be simple linework after that?

do you have a suggested step by step process

Not clear as to what you are looking for.

For items like doors/windows etc,  in model detail or section views, we turn off the door/frame and replace it with a detail element.   I like this method better than embedded details because they can not be controlled.  We also have standard Head / Jamb & Sill details that are drafting views.  These drafting views could be converted CAD details.  We keep these detail views in sample projects where they can be looked at then transferred into the working project.

Awhile back, I wrote this for CAD cleanups:  http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=18894

Some things have changed since then.  To change your linetypes, you don't need to do 5 through 11.  Instead, simply select and isolate the CAD named lines and switch them to your standard lines.  Otherwise, the guide is pretty good.
