When you go to "structure" tab and you select "Beam", "Wall", "Column" and so on you have a "Load Family" button where you can select in "Structural" folder what you need.
About the "Render engine" (and I don't work with MEP or Struct.) is the same like in Arch.... "Mental Ray".

There is special fuctions in each Revit program so even though structural families can be used in architecture, you will not have all the structure program's capabilities. The same goes for MEP.

The default location in RAC 2012 is C:\Programdata\Autodesk\RAC 2012\Libraries\ . . . . .
To a certain degree it depasnds on the version of REVIT you have installed and 'how it got installed'. If you have legitimate software it should install with all the familes required. Otherwise you can append the installation with the Autodesk DVD or USB.
Do a search on your hard drive for *.rfa files and see if they exist. Once you find them you can setup a 'place' in REVIT to make it easier to load them.
If you do not find the *.rfa family files on the hard drive then they do not exist and the installation needs to be appended.

Nope. that will not do It depands on what Windows OS you have and what version of REVIT but either way you should have a TON of *.rfa files on the hard drive. Otherwise you have a bogus installatiion.

Now you just need to add that folder as a 'Place' or 'Library' folder in REVIT for quick access.
