Hi All,
I chnaged companies a few years ago and have been using Archicad exclusively. I am in a position in the future to reccomend changing software as I still love Revit. I was wondering however what had changed in the last few years. I am up on enhancements like 3d modeling and all of the stuff in the promotional material. However I would like to know if the bugs that used to be a real barrier to productivity.
Things like:
no automatic window and door schedule
Not able to mirror windows and doors in the schedule
Not able to cast shadows on floor plans
Site tools improvements
ummmmm... that is all I can think of at the moment. I will be downloading a trial soon..
cheers

"...no automatic window and door schedule..." This was even available pre 2008 so I don't understand this question.
"...Not able to mirror windows and doors in the schedule..." <<< ??? Windows are model elements - how could you mirror in a schedule?
"... Not able to cast shadows on floor plans ..." If you use a scope box, you can cast shadows. This has been available for a long time.
"... Site tools improvements..." Not much help here in native revit but there is a great plugin for this.

Automatic door and window schedule:
You have to manually drop the door and windows into the legend is this not correct? By comparison (I am not starting a comparison thread here) in Archicad the CADimage add-on, you merely choose some schedule parameters and it picks all of the windows and door and puts them onto a sheet labeled and correctly dimensioned
Not able to mirror windows and doors in the schedule
I am talking about graphical schedules. In plan it is possible to mirror a window or door so for exmaple if you have a model family with a fixed light with a openable on the left, you can mirror it on the model do the openable is on the right. When you create a window schedule you show windows from the outside if I had one of each in a building I would expect to be able to show in the graphic schedule a window with the light on the right and one with it on the left. Because the graphic schedule uses the model family, it can only show the family as is, it cannot show it reversed.
Cast Shadows on floor plans
This is for showing the extent that sun extends into a building, you can only do this with a camera view and you have to hide the roof as it obscures the view. Forgive me that I cannot remember the details, it has been a couple of years.
Is there a feature list that shows what wish list items have been completed in the last few versions? On AUGI Maybe?
Thank you for your response. - My old user name on here was PSymon ...

The plug in that WWHub is referring to is SiteWorks by Eagle Point, it seems pretty clever, though I have not yet, purchased it. I have devised my own methods for doing roadwork, a bit tedious but pretty good results.

Revit now has "legend components", a 2D representation of families for use in detailed schedules with elevations. It does not work with storefronts as they are not families, and they have not perfected the feature. You can cast shadows on a floorplan with "shadows on/off". The biggest change from '09 is the ribbon and its contextual tab states. Oh how I yearn for the pre-ribbon days!!!

So... I have had a look at the Revit method for doing grpahic door and window schedules, and please tell me I ma wrong, but nothing has changed since version 2009!
You still really have an option of making a legend and using a legend component. You have to manually choose which windows you want and then manually dimension and write text descriptors - you can't even tag, or mirror the components. I have seen people are doing work arounds with phasing and setting up live views
Is this correct or am I missing someting? I can't belive that this has not been addressed considering most Architects do grpahic schedules?

You can tag materials in legend components so I'm not sure what you want with "... write text descriptors...".
Yes - You have to dimension them and you can't mirror them. Tagging is on the wish list that was just voted for.
For windows and storefronts, we prefer to use model elevation views with the element isolated. Easy to dimension and tag.

"For windows and storefronts, we prefer to use model elevation views with the element isolated. Easy to dimension and tag. "
That is what I thought - it really is a work around - it is a very ad hoc and non accurate system as it relies on the drafter to remember to update changes in the windows and to manually choose which windows go on the sheets, group similar windows etc.
In terms of taging I would like access to all of the windows properties: Name, size, custom comments etc - the same as you would usually get for graphic window and door scchedules.
I know this is a sensitive topic, but am really surprised that this has not been addressed in the 3 years since R 2009.
Has anyone used this program? It looks like it has potential:

Thank all for the feedback! I appreciate it, as I have stated before- I am trying to introduce Revit to our company, but need to have answers to the curly questions.
cheers!

I took a look at that add-on you posted, and it just looks like a rearrangement of all the information that is already available in the door and window schedules. I put all the door and window information in a schedule with a column for type, then I put a Legend below the schedule called "door types", which has all the doors elevated and dimensioned by type. If I have a type that has varying widths or heights, I label the dimension, "varies, see schedule".
