Revit identifies columns by the gridline coordinates at which they appear. So columns “A-1” for example. It appears to use a convention of listing the vertical gridline first, then the horizontal (looking at plan view). Is there a way to reverse this? The structural engineer on the project I’m working on appears to prefer the opposite, and it makes checking my schedule against his rather tedious.

There is no workaround... just renaming all the grids manually. In order to not make mistakes, when i rename grids, i check a list made in excel with the corresponding letters, that prevents mistakes when the list is too long.
