Okay.  Frustrated.  2 workers, one model.  K-12 charter school (not that that matters), 1 central file, 2 local files. Working in different areas of the building completely yet we are stuck sitting and waiting for our machine.  I cannot tell you how many times we have seen the "the central file is being accesssed" window.  Why?  Yes, we have worksets turned on, no we have not signed any of them out. The model is only 65MB so far and we have done 300 MB files.  We are working on Windows 7 machines with 8 GB ram.

Very frustrating.  Why does it keep accessing the central file every time one of us moves something?  This is not my first go around with this program, I've been using it since 2008.  I've never gotten this frustrated with it before.  There must be something simple I'm missing and that's why I'm turning here.

Help!  What am I missing?

well, you can try going to R-->Options-->General, and move the slider bar for 'Worksharing Update Frequency' from the default 5 second intervals to less, like 30 seconds or a minute.  Odds are you guys were synched up so that one user was trying to upload changes the same second that the other was, prompting a message even though the overlap was basically a coincidence.

I find that actual communication is the best way of not stepping on one another's toes when working on the same project.  Have clear tasks in separate parts of the model.   I don't use the worksharing visuals.

What sort of network are you working on?  Worksharing information updates are miniscule.  You aren't trying a VPN, are you?  That would be much slower.
