It would be really helpful for those of us who build a lot of families to be able to determine the object ID at a glance rather than having to use the clunky Manage/Select by ID function, which requires that you know the object ID to begin with. (This is primarily an issue when you get an error while making extrusions or types in families.) If you could also name the object (see previous post) it would make searching for the source of the error much easier and more intuitive.
While we're at it, please do something about the useless "show" function when you get an error message which either 1) results in a mesage that "no good view could be found" or 2) shows the error in a view that is so zoomed in that you can't tell exactly what in the family you are looking at, and when you zoom out, the selected object is deselected. This just doesn't work well at all.

The show fuction is very good and I use it all the time. 99% of the "no good view found" are elements that only exist in sketch mode so these can be a problem to find. There is no good way to solve this except being careful when doing in-place models. I prefer not to leave dimensions in these sketches as those contribute to this problem.
Element names already exist for loaded families. Naming these items would really bog you down so I disagree with you.

I think I wasn't as clear as I thought I was! I was referring to object IDs of elements within the family (I don't build in-place families). I also meant that I'd like to name extrusions within the family, not for families loaded into the project, whose names are easy to find and use.
Since Revit is a database it seems to me that it should be possible to find anything, even a sketch line, anywhere in the project. If I'm making several types in a complex family and one of the types "can't be created", I'd like to be able to know that sketch line ID #9705 in the Widget extrusion is the problem. My point is that it can be difficult, in a family with complex geometry, to figure out what the issue is, and I'd like easier access to data in the database that can help me identify the issue.

This sounds like a family building process problem. I test my families as I build them, I don't wait until I'm completely finished. That means I flex the family continuously as I build it.
You also need to be aware of hosted family problems like wall hosted where wall thickness can vary. Test that as well.
