Hey everyone,

I wanted to see what the norm is for modeling the structural roof members in a Revit Structural project.  Currently I model using a specific level for a roof plan (Ex: Level 3 Roof) and use the framing members Start & End Offsets to get the desired slope.  This also works well because the analytical model connects correctly for the most part and there is not much adjustment needed.  However, it can become time consuming everytime the architects change the slope of the roof.  You have to recalculate all the new elevations and adjust the framing members to that height.  There are tools in the newer Revit that help make this easier, but wanted to see if there is a quicker method thats as accurate and able to export.

The other method, which I'm not very famiiar with, is setting up a roof with Reference Planes and attaching the framing members to it.  I've noticed that it's not as accurate, and theres more to adjust in the analytical to get it to export correctly.  Also, when ever I change the slope of the Reference Plane, the framing members will offset fromt the grid and I find myself putting in as much time re-aligning everything as I did recalculating elevations.  Is there a way to lock them in place so they don't detach?  This method seems like it could be easier and quicker to manage the roof plan if it changes slopes, but I can't get it to work very good.  I was just wondering if I am doing something wrong, or if this method has flaws that you have to deal with?

Thanks for the help!
