copied down central files to local folder. linked the links to the correct paths in the central file and saved paths are all correct. when i open my local copy and 'reload from' it changes the saved path instead of creating a local alias. what am i doing wrong? is this a 2012 issue?
i have the same folder structure locally.
any help appreciated.
thanks!

The best way to make a local file is by simply opening the central file.
In options you can set up a default location for revit to store your local files... I've cleverly left mine as "documents" because I'm sort of disorganized and can't really care where the local files are at since I don't interact with them. just make sure it's set to a local destination and not somewhere random on the network.
If you browse to the central file on the network and open it from within revit, the screen on the right will pop up, and as you can see circled in the pic below, "Create new Local" is checked by default.
So every time you try to open the central, you're actually creating a new local file in the mydocuments folder on your C drive. But don't uncheck the box of else you're working on the actual central file, and that's not a good thing to be doing.
