So I have a project where we started it based on cad files from the architect. Now the architect has given us a Revit model. When I link the Revit model into my model, it is nowhere near my model. I want to move my model so that when i link origin to origin, the two models line up properly.
I have tried every combination of the "relocate project" tool. All it seems to do is move the origin point around, without actually moving my model. So the relative difference between the arch model and my model stays the same. THis is so very frustrating to me. I don't understand why it is so difficult to do this. We have be using revit for years, and never figured out how to make this work. We always resort to physically dragging the linked model over to line up, which I hate doing.
I sure hope someone knows a better way to do this. Thanks.

This information will aslo HELP:
Read these topics in your HELP as a starting point:
Acquiring and Publishing Coordinates
Acquire Coordinates

Project Base Points and Survey Points
Also, download AUGI Edge - Winter 2010 - There is a good article titled "Revit's Shared Coordinates - A tutorial"

THanks for the link. Unfortunately, the link does not work. I have read everything I can on the coordinate system. But still can not get it to work right. I should add that I can aquire coordinates, and then relocate the project, and get it to look right in Revit. But this has not adjusted the project base point, so when I export to cad or navisworks, the two models do not align with each other.
I really need a way to move the project base point. Everything I have done keeps the project base point at the same relative position to my model. So when I export, the floor plan is still at the same offset from 0,0 in cad. I want to be able to set the project base point at a specific location (say Grid intersection A-1) in my model, so that when I export, the floor plans align to the proper location.
Thanks.

That link should have worked. It is about Revit's origin system.http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=24595

Also note that you can publish coordinates to the CAD file and I don't think you have done this. From the HELP:
"When you publish shared coordinates from a host Revit Architecture project to a linked DWG, this changes the linked DWG. The origin of the host Revit Architecture project’s shared coordinate system becomes the origin of a new User Coordinate System (UCS) in the DWG file. The Y axis of the new UCS corresponds to the host project's True North. You can name the UCS when you publish coordinates. It is not recommended that you change this name after publishing coordinates. "

So I figured out how to move the project base point and set it to 0,0 in revit. But when I export, the 0,0 in cad is still off in some other location. I don't seem to have any control over where the 0,0 point is located when i export out of revit.
I should not have to use shared coordinates for this. I just want to relocate the project origin manually. I don't need to have several models linking into a campus plan, which is the only time I would think shared coordinates would be useful, or worth the effort.
So now I have wasted half the day trying to make this work. Sometimes I really hate Reit and all the developers. Have any of them actually tried to use this program to make a living?
