Hello, does anyone know how I would create a roof with multiple slope at the ridge as shown in the attached jpeg's?
Thanks

I think you are going to need to split it up. Everywhere there is a different angle/slope/slope direction you will need a separate roof. All the roof pieces should line perfectly and then to make it look seamless you just make the connecting line invisible by way of 'line work.' This is how I have dealt with the complex roof issues that I have run into.

I have tried it a couple of different ways with no luck so far. Simple gable with ends clipped, simple gable without ends clipped with another "gable roof" and attempted to join them with no success. Sound like I have my work cut out for me.

I'd probably create it as a mass first them use roof by face.

I am trying that, it seemed to work until I looked at it in elevation. It was constrained to the main roof plane so it goes beyond the ridge on the opposite side, looks fine in "3d" but not in realilty.

Second pdf showing the roof going past the ridge. If I could only figure out how to rotate the roof plane....

Something like this? I created a mass Family for the odd peak. You can change the properties of the peak and reload to see its effect. The trick was to join the geometry of the mass with the roof which provided a trimmed face to add a roof to. If you have 8.1 I’ll get you the files.

YES! that is exactly it. How did you do that? I have been trying to use a mass to do that but I cant get it to have a different slope than the main roof. Excellent job.

Here is the mass family. This is before I joined geometry with the project roof. You control the pitch of the mass family in the family editor and then load/reload it into your project. I should add that the mass family has a void extrusion to clip the gable plumb.
BTW, is there a name for this style? It is new to me, but I kind of like it. Would be simple to build with overframing.

I seem to remeber this being covered in one of the video tutorials from DGCAD (www.dgcad.com.) It's about $10 to get access to all the video tutorials (30+) and its been money well spent for me. Just check out the roof tutorial & see if that helps you.
