All families have this setting option.  This is used to control the availability of information from nested families.  Shared means that information will be available in the project.

From the HELP:> "When you use shared families to create a nested family, you can select, tag, and schedule the individual subcomponents in a project. (If subcomponents are not from shared families, Revit Architecture treats an instance of the nested family as a single item for selecting, tagging, and scheduling.)

See also nested family. For more information, see The Families Guide.

WWHub,

thank you very much for the reply

i really hate to say this but i still cannot get it, i checked and uncheck the box and it seems theres nothing happen. you said by checking or unchecking the box i control the availability of the information in the nested family. in this case (the picture was taken from the structural column family) the b & h are not shared by default, to make it appear on the schedule you must go the family, edit it and make it shared using modify button on FAMILY TYPE DIALOG BOX, without doing this the b and h cannot be appear into the schedule, the shared thick box cannot control the visibility of the b and h.

do i sound loss? please help me

what nested family anyway? what is the difference of this to other family?

thanks,

please have more patience to me because i know nothing Sad

anyway the one i am asking is about ALWAYS EXPORT AS GEOMETRY, its also on the structural column family property box, what is this for?

also if you will go to the family type dialog box, you will see the LOCK column cell and there is one tick box on every b and h , what is this for? by default theres a check on each tick box, what will happen if i uncheck the b and h? i cant see any difference if i uncheck this two tick boxes. please explain

Before we go any furthur, let's start by getting you some better tools.  Please download the families guide from here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=13092938&linkID=9243140

In that, you will find a chapter on creating nested families.  See if that helps you understand what nested families are and how they work.
