Hi,
I'm using Revit 2012 and i am new to this, I would like to change the color of some of the masking regions that are showing up in plan/ elevation to better replicate the elements that they are hosted by, ie... cabinets, windows, doors.... anyone know how to do this?
Thanks

Masking regions are described by lines. Just create an appropriate linetype.
... or even easier, just click on the masking region and over-ride graphics in view - projection lines - color.

Instead of using a masking region, you can use a filled region with a solid hatch, with a transparent background, and choose your own color.
it looks like this.
Are you saying that you want to change the.... surface color of elements? because that's different. you have to give the objects -materials- I'd start with searching for "assigning materials." There are a wealth of posts on this subject.

That helps, i am basically just trying to get the component or family types that i bring into the project to read more like they should, a window for example, cuts through the wall and has a grey region w/ lines, i want it to read more like a wood sill and framed window, so the solid fill w/ a transparent material works great...thank you!

hold on, hehe! this is a good example of where you should tell that window that its material is made of wood, and then it will display like wood.
if you select the window, and over in your properties bar, you should see an option to "edit type." Once you hit that, you'll be able to specify all sorts of parameters that are built into the family (if they are.) You'll be able to change the glass material, and the sash, or frame materials. You can also change the dimensions of the window, and more.
To change a material in this window, click on "Glass" for example, and to the far right of the row, you'll see a [...] button appear. hit that. it'll take you to the list of materials in the project, and you can browse down to the various woods.
Many times when you load in a family, you get a lot of gray materials. Default this or that. it takes a little bit of work to assign render materials, and plain colors for shaded views, but it's worth it. If you go this route instead of applying h atches, you'll be very relieved when you have to make any changes down the road.
