I'm putting together door and window tags for office standards and was wondering if anybody has managed to do what I'm trying to do, and if so could they explain the method.
Out tags have the level number written in them, I want to be able to have a variable in the level system family that controls this number.
I figured I need a parameter that can travel across two/three families. Since the tag is hosted on the window which is in turn hosted on the wall, but referenced to the level.
LEVEL/WALL --> WINDOW --> TAG
Is this even possible? (I'm using 2012)

Families can pass information to nested families, but that is not all of your question. The other answer to your question "Can families pass on Parameters from their host...?" is maybe .... sometimes... but probably not in the instance you "describe.
We now have availabe some very resticted "Reporting Parameters". You can search that term in your HELP and see what is available there.

Windows are hosted on levels too...not that it helps...
You are try to nest a system family parameter within your tag...I doubt it's possible, but happy if you tell me otherwise...
I would suggest creating a shared paramter for your doors and windows prefix and controlling the input through a schedule. You can group by Level, and uncheck the 'itemize every instance.' This would be a very simple and efficient solution.
Make sense?
