hey guys
my office is considering the switch to revit in the next year or two, so im trying to wrap my head around how to make this most effective. We do commercial store designs (food markets, lumber yards) as well as fast food equipment layout (mc donalds, harvies, dairy queen...) so we deal with a great deal of equipment and shelving. What I would like to know if it is possible to after creating the new families of the spec driven equipment, weather it can all be called out specifically into a schedule. EG: shevles differentiated by code numbers to determain accurate quantities, and qualities embedded into the family.
Anyone have any experience with this? let me know if this doesn't make sence or isn't clear, its been a long day haha

Short answer is yes.
Particularly if you model your equipment as separate families, it should be extremely easy to generate schedules.

What he said!
We do a lot of apartment buildings and use equipment schedules for all our fixtures and fittings. It's what Revit does best
See attached for quick example the WC has a Type mark this is scheduled as is description manufacturer and quantity in the project.

I have done a few restaurants, and have modeled some kitchen equipment, much of what you can find on this site regards restaurant equipment was modeled by me, and is fairly accurate. It did not take that much time to model the items as you will find. Much better if the manufacturer's were modeling there own, soon maybe they will do. Also you can model and add the electrical and mechanical connections which I have not done on the objects I placed on this site. Maybe you will pick them up and improve them. The learning curve can seem a little steep. But after a while you will never want to go back.

Foodservice equipment manufacturers are starting to create their own equipment.
To anyone who is going to create their own foodservice families, please be aware that a set of standards has been set up. You can find all the info at http://rvttskfrce.ning.com/. It lays out guidelines for modeling (pretty much following Autodesk standards) and has a set of shared parameters so everyone can be on the same page.
