I am attempting to insert a ceiling grid into my model. The problem is that revit has 2x2 and 2x4 ceiling grids. I need to create a ceiling grid that is 2.5' x 5' tiles. I also need these to be able to move to look at different options. I have tried just changing th surface pattern, but then cant line up the grid with the walls. Is there anyway I can create a custom grid and start inserting it? Any opinions would be great. Thanks a lot!

you'll probably have to create a custom .PAT file and import it for the surface hatch pattern. search the forums for how to do that. Then you can modify the rendered appearance image to stretch it to you size. Just make sure you line up your surface pattern with the rendered image. Also refer to the related posts listed at the bottom of the screen which should help.

NO!!!  you don't have to create a custom .pat file.

go to Fill pattern

Manage tab --> additional settings --> Fill pattern --> create New model pattern, then give it a new name and set the spacing to 2.5' x 5' or whatever you need, hit ok and you are done.

Now you can assign the new modeling pattern to the ceiling material

that's it!!!!

The key to remember is this method will only work in a repetitive grid situation.

No need to do custom pat file.

Thanks for the tip pchan, I always just pass over the 'Simple' option and go to 'Custom' to import the .PAT files. Funny what you can miss when you get in a routine.
